With the Black Friday sales event almost upon us, many affiliates are working hard to capitalize on it. Let’s face it. Many folks wait for months to get some of the things they need during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As long as you have great content for your visitors, there is no reason you shouldn’t be able to increase the amount of revenue you earn from affiliate offers during the holiday shopping season. Here are 5 ways to do that:

Offer the latest coupons: if you want your affiliate business to take off during this season, you need to work hard to offer the latest coupons and deals to your visitors.

Provide speadsheets: Black Friday spreadsheets and ad round-ups are quite popular By gathering as much information as you humanly can and put it inside a spreadsheet, you will give your visitors a better way to search though deals and find what they are looking for.

Build apps: iPhone and Android applications are on the rise. There are already a few decent Black Friday applications around. But you can always make a better one.

Provide specific guides: I have seen this approach do wonders for some. Showing people how to explore malls and specific stores faster during hectic Black Friday events is a huge plus for business.

Help people decide: sharing the latest deals on your site is one way to provide value to your visitors. Showing them which deals are the best takes the approach to the next level.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday provide you with a golden opportunity to earn a huge amount of commission and revenue. Underestimating these shopping days is not a very smart idea.

Many assume that affiliate marketing is a super easy way to make money online. After all, if you can slap banners on a web page, you can make money online, right? Most experienced affiliates know that is not to make real money in this business. Top affiliates are always working on new products/services or portals to increase their earnings. But I have met a few who are quite comfortable with the blueprint they have come up with and don’t take time to make changes to it. Unfortunately, things do not always stay the same in the affiliate marketing world. If you are not innovating you are going to get left behind.

Markets and products come and go. So do affiliate programs. Even if you have achieved high conversion rates with the products you are promoting today, there is no guarantee that will continue. The release of new technologies always provide new affiliates to change the game. As a top affiliate, you want to keep your eyes open to make sure you don’t fall behind.

Some affiliates assume that they can make money while spending the majority of their time at the beach. That might work for a small group of established affiliates but even that is pushing it. Hard work is required in order to succeed in this business.

In this day and age, new, shiny gadgets are released to the market everyday. The first temptation for many affiliates is to start promoting these products right away. There is nothing wrong with that approach as long as you do your due diligence. Many affiliates that I know cut corners and rely on early reviews to figure out whether a gadget is worth promoting. The trouble is many of these early reviews are fake or left by people who have no idea how to review what they have on their hands.

Let’s take the tablet PC market for instance. Everyday that goes by, more shiny tablets are released to the market. Tablets are not that cheap so they can bring you a decent amount of revenue. The trouble is, not all of these tablets are made with quality in mind. If you choose the wrong tablet to promote or do not properly test what you are recommending to your visitors, you are going to surely turn them off. Besides, many merchants put restrictions on their affiliates when it comes to promoting new gadgets. You do not want to spend time and effort promoting a product that you won’t be getting full commission for.

Promoting new gadgets can be quite tricky. Affiliates should never ever promote a product they have not tested themselves. That would come back to haunt them in the future.

The affiliate marketing business can be quite unpredictable. There are going to be months when everything goes according to the plan, and your business results exceed your expectations. Then there are months that nothing seems to go right. Many affiliates do get a bit nervous when their earnings start to drop. Making rash decisions in those situations won’t get you anywhere. If your earnings have dropped significantly, you want to stay calm and focus on things you can do to get back on the right track. Here are 5 ways to do just that:

analyze your traffic: if your earnings are dropping because you are getting less traffic, you can do something about it. You should take advantage of new channels to bring more traffic to your website.

analyze quality of your traffic: just because you are getting thousands of people to your website each and every month does not mean they are all ready to make purchases on your site. Quality traffic matters big time.

try new affiliate products: not getting enough money from your current affiliate campaigns? It may be time for you to start trying new affiliate products.

start more websites: it could be the case that your earnings are dropping because your websites are becoming stagnant. Adding new websites to your portfolio can always help with that.

build your own product: relying only on affiliate products to make money can limit the potential of your business. Having your very own product would not be a bad idea.

If you are earning less money than ever before from your affiliate efforts, there is no need to panic. Trying to figure out the reason is the first step towards getting back on the horse.

Not every company is against affiliate tax bills that are being approved all over the country. Companies such as Amazon and Overstock do not plan to continue working with affiliates affected in states that have already passed the law. Then we have B&N, Walmart, and Sears that are actually pushing these types of bills to go forward.

If you make most of your money from promoting products, chances are you are going to need to have a relationship with Sears, Walmart, and companies like that. Boycotting them as an affiliate may not be the best idea anyway. Affiliates are simply not in a position to challenge merchants by boycotting them.

The internet tax will eventually become law throughout this country. It is a matter of when not if at this point. Affiliates are better off turning their focus to creating products and reduce their dependency on merchants. That’s the best way to stick it to the man at this point.

In case you have not been paying attention, you have realized by now that affiliate tax is going to come to most states. The lawmakers are looking for a tax legislation for the whole country. But it is not clear when such legislation will make it to the books. Let’s face it. The current economic conditions in the U.S. are very unfriendly towards affiliates. Companies you have worked for to generate leads for can kick you out in a very short period of time. It is always better to be prepared just in case the worst case scenario happens in your state. Here are 5 ways to do just that:

create products: affiliate marketing is a nice way to get yourself familiar with how product makers go about making their products and learning about the ins and outs of marketing. At the same time, affiliates need to look for ways to become truly their own bosses. Making and selling your own product is the only way to do that.

work on membership sites: if you are making money from blogging (using affiliate products), you may want to consider starting a membership site to hedge your bets.

write books: this is something that can be done fairly quickly if you have truly mastered your niche. This is the perfect place to start if you are running short on time and want to have a generate a new revenue stream for your business fast.

create more content: there are plenty of folks who make money from services such as Adsense. In order to do so, you are going to need a lot of traffic and a lot of content. Starting your video blog or more sites could give you the chance to do just that.

diversify your affiliate promotions: don’t want to do any of the above? You can still make a decent living as long as you don’t put all your eggs in one basket with your affiliate promotions.

The issue of affiliate tax will soon be addressed nationwide. How soon? With states in trouble, the Internet tax will be an easy way out for the lawmakers. Better prepare for it when you have the time.

Banned by Google? Unless you push the envelop, Google won’t have anything to do with you, right? That is not exactly true. You could get banned for all kinds of reasons. Your Adwords and Adsense accounts can get suspended if you are not too careful. If your account is flagged by Google, chances are you are going to find it very difficult to get it enabled unless you have a connection at Google. But there are steps you can take to give yourself a better chance to survive:

Contact Google: that should be your first step. Don’t expect too much. Google is awful when it comes to handling customer complaints. They keep feeding you their policy and how you have messed up. Still you should contact them to see whether you have been flagged by accident.

Be polite: you are not going to get anywhere with Google by being nasty. That approach may work when you are dealing with your phone company. Google is in the position of power though (unless you spend a ton of money with them). Try to explain why you should not be banned and what you have done to deserve a second chance. Chances are they won’t listen to you. But you should still try.

Try alternatives: Google is not the only company with an ad serving platform for publishers and advertisers. So what if you can’t make money with Google Adwords and Adsense? You can take your business to Google’s competitors.

Hedge your bets: over-relying on Adwords or Adsense can only lead to heartbreaks for you and your business. Never ever trust Google to do the right thing for your business. This is a for-profit company that cares more about its shareholders than you. So you should spend time spreading the word about your products on social networking sites and through other channels.

Learn from your mistakes: sometimes, you are at fault for being banned. If that is the case, learn from your mistake and move on. Don’t repeat the same mistakes over and over again if you want to achieve different results.

Being banned by Google is never fun. Nobody gets up in the morning to get a “you are banned” notice. But it happens. A few years ago, that could have been deadly for small businesses. Not these days. Not in the age of Facebook, Twitter, and Bing.

Many affiliates see what is going on in other states and hope that Amazon tax won’t come to their state. It is nice to be optimistic but that is not the way to run a business. SC is the latest state to pass the affiliate tax law, forcing Amazon and a few other companies to leave the state. This anti-business measure will be making its way to almost every state in the U.S. in the near future. Let’s face it. States are struggling to make enough revenue to account for the liabilities. Affiliates are going to get the shaft as a part of these states’ efforts to raise their revenues.

It is encouraging to see other companies follow Amazon’s lead and leave the state. While we do not want to see affiliates lose their business, the best way to fight these anti-business measures is to take a strong stand. Going after the affiliate marketing business this way is going to lead to many small online businesses to struggle to stay afloat. By leaving these states, Amazon is reminding them that the current approach to the Internet tax issue is not the right one.

Affiliates are better off planning ahead of time just in case more states join this movement to implement Internet sales tax laws. Creating products and diversifying their revenue sources are must do for all affiliates at this point. We all want to make more money as affiliates. But you should not put all your eggs in one basket.

Just in case you missed it, Google slapped many affiliate sites hard with its latest Panda update. Google Panda is not a new change. It went into effect a while ago and brought down many content farms. On April 11th, Google take it to the next step and devastated many more affiliate sites. Of course, Google tells you that it only targets thin affiliate websites, but who knows what that means.

Those whose sites have been affected by this algorithm change may think of this as the end of their world. In reality, if you have been around the field of affiliate marketing for a while, you have probably had to deal with multiple affiliate slaps. It gets easier the more you get slapped. The only thing that matters is how you deal with these slaps.

Google wants you to work on great content. Links and on-page factors still matter but Google wants to make your life as an affiliate more difficult. That is if you have been getting away with making money from garbage content. The good news is it is never too late to get started with quality content development.

Many affiliates want to focus on short-term gains rather than building a long-term business. You may have to spend more time developing quality content for your website to get ranked better by Google, but you can think of it as an investment in your business. Quality content can last you for a while, much more so than thin content. Besides, when Google and other engines change their algorithms, your business won’t be in the ruins.

You can add unique and quality content to your website by creating your own videos, starting a podcast, and even writing more quality articles. The sky’s the limit. Don’t forget social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Those can still drive traffic to your website. The future of affiliate marketing is all about having the best content around. The sooner you get started, the better off you are. It may slow down a bit at first, but you will be better off over the long run.

I have seen too many affiliates who are looking for quick ways to make money. There are actually simply quick ways to do just that. But not every affiliate is interested in short-term gains. Some folks prepare working hard and building an empire that could last them for a few years. Blogging is one of the easiest ways to get started with affiliate marketing. As long as you can write and are passionate about the topic you are writing about, there is no reason you can’t be a successful affiliate marketer through your blog.

There are two ways to make money from blogging. Blogging just for the sake of making affiliate sales is possible. Unfortunately, it is not an approach that will last for a long time. People come to blogs to learn new things and get some value for their time. Blogs who just cover affiliate products and do not offer a whole lot of value won’t be making you millions.

Take a look at a blog such as ProBlogger. It is one of the most popular websites in the blogging world. It can teach new bloggers a whole lot about ways to take their business to the next level. When one talks about Darren, people don’t assume him to be a master affiliate marketer. But he is probably making a fortune promoting affiliate products on his site. After all, with all the traffic he gets and the credibility that he has built, it is not too hard for him to push certain products.

Darren Rowse’s story is a classic case study of how to build a blogging business with multiple revenue streams. He is not relying only on affiliate marketing to make money online. His blog may suffer if he had to deal with Amazon tax issues. But he will always make money regardless of what laws pass. Things do not happen overnight for these superstars. If you plan to be one of these folks, you shouldn’t expect to get anything easy.
